Foods that help manage an overactive bladder

People with an overactive bladder can combat this issue with daily lifestyle changes and certain foods. It is important to pay attention to the diet. Onions, leeks and garlic are often recommended because they may have anti-spasmodic effects on the bladder. These wholesome foods have high levels of fluid, fibre, soluble vitamins and minerals

Foods to eat

Garlic

Raw garlic has compounds that kill bacteria and reduce the risk of cancer cells mutating. They help reduce the risk of urinary tract infections, keeping it running smoothly. One can chew raw cloves or use them in their salad preparations. What green or leafy vegetables can help you control your toilet time.

Avoid foods that may contribute to constipation such as carrots to reduce bladder pressure. By including more fibre-rich foods such as kale, broccoli, cucumbers, and celery in your diet, your risk of developing an overactive bladder will be reduced.

Legumes like lentils

Exercise, diet, and other lifestyle changes are not enough when you suffer from an overactive bladder. Beans, lentils, green beans, black beans and chickpeas help promote healthy digestion and keep the bladder under control.

Berries like cranberries

You can add cranberries, strawberries, blueberries and raspberries to your daily meals and smoothie recipes. Most berries are rich in antioxidants and contain fiber that naturally helps to stabilize overactive bladder symptoms.

Lean meat and poultry like chicken

A diet rich in protein helps in the growth and development of the body. Lean cuts of meat like chicken, turkey, lamb, and some parts of pork or beef help supplement one’s daily protein requirement.

Seafood like salmon

Why fish is good for managing overactive bladder. Seafood options like salmon, tuna, and sardines are rich in vitamin D. These foods are rich in protein, which helps the body repair damaged tissues and cells.

Eggs

Eggs are a good source of protein, vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids. They can be used in many recipes and offer an answer to the need for a low calorie yet high-protein food. There are many types of prescriptions that doctors have for managing OAB symptoms. These are mentioned below:

Myrbetriq

For people with an over active bladder, Myrbetriq can improve the bladder muscle and the ability to hold urine. This improvement reduces the risk of urgency and episodes of urinary leakage.

Vibegron

Vibegron is a medical device that reduces urinary incontinence, the frequency of urination, and the urge to urinate. You can take Vibegron in pill or syrup form.

Catheter for overactive bladder

Inserting a catheter into an overactive bladder helps store urine outside the body. For severe cases, doctors recommend the use of a catheter.
