Foods that can help lower the risk of cancer

With advancements in health technology, medical professionals can now manage cancer effectively and even cure it in some instances. But nutrition is important for patient treatment, as certain foods not only supplement the process and help lower the risk of developing the disease but also rejuvenate healthy cells. This article lists five cancer-fighting foods. Be sure to consult a doctor before adding any of these foods to your daily meals.

Bananas

Certain foods have been found to help lower the risk of cancer including Bananas, which are rich in soluble fibre that helps reduce the risk of degenerative illnesses like cancer. The potassium present in Bananas may help replenish electrolytes lost due to diarrhoea and vomiting.

Pomegranates

Pomegranates are loaded with vitamin C, fibre, vitamin K, and folate as well as antioxidants like flavonoids and anthocyanins. These antioxidants can lower inflammation caused by oxidative stress that’s constantly attacking the body. The lightweight fabric is good for everyone, regardless of age.

Garlic

Besides making food flavorful, garlic has been linked to lower cancer risk. It is loaded with nutrients like vitamin B6, vitamin C, and selenium that help fight cancer cells. Further, S-allyl cysteine (SAC), an organosulfur in garlic also provides that can induce apoptosis (cell suicide) in cancerous cells. The reduced risk of creating new cancers helps suppress the spread of the disease.

Grapes

Grapes are a cancer-fighting food. They contain an antioxidant called resveratrol that can lower the risk of cancer and improve memory function. Different types of grapes contain more resveratrol, with purple and black varieties containing more than green grapes.

Onions

Onions are notorious for their healing abilities, especially when it comes to lowering your risk of cancer. They contain quercetin, an antioxidant that helps fight cancer by lowering inflammation and inducing apoptosis on tumour cells.

CAR T-cell therapy is a way to fight cancer by altering one’s immune system. These particular cells are modified through the use of lab-based gene therapy and have been used most as a complementary treatment to chemotherapy and radiation, yet they can also be used exclusively in some cases

The prostate cancer drug, Xofigo®, has powerful results in fighting prostate cancer cells. The six injections work to target specific cancerous cells while healthy cells are relatively unharmed. Side effects can include diarrhoea and vomiting, but it is a well-known treatment option for prostate cancer.
